Our Approach
Because every therapeutic relationship is unique, we don’t believe in a cookie-cutter approach to counselling. We draw on a variety of theoretical approaches, including Relational Life Therapy, Gottman, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment, and Family Systems Theory, which allows us to address not only individual and couple dynamics but also family relationships. No matter which theory we draw from, our focus remains on improving your relationships and meeting your unique needs. Above all, our approach is collaborative, relational, and supportive.

“Tanya’s gift to us has been accountability. She specializes in supporting the creation of action steps to follow awareness. I haven’t enjoyed the process but I’ve loved the results; and so has my wife! We thwarted the clutches of divorce with tools, practices, exercises, and actions to start creating a whole new marriage – one we both want.”
Daniel S., Vancouver Island
“My husband and I had seen a few therapists before Tanya but never stuck with it. We love each other but found it hard to transition to being new parents while dealing with my husband’s history of addictions and infidelity. Working with Tanya helped us regain our footing, both as parents and as a couple. She compassionately helped us work through some long-standing issues and regain trust while teaching us how to relate to each other and problem-solve in more healthy ways. I’d recommend Tanya without reservation.”
M.B., Vancouver Island
“My husband and I started seeing Tanya after we split up. She compassionately and patiently helped us develop better communication tools, establish trust, and, eventually, find our way back to one another. I would definitely recommend Tanya as a relationship therapist.”
K.M., Courtnay
“My teenage daughter and I saw a few counsellors before Tanya. By the time we came to Tanya, my daughter suffered from severe anxiety and felt hopeless. Our relationship was strained, and I doubted myself as a parent. After working with Tanya, my daughter was back in school, had goals, and more importantly had hopes for herself moving forward – something I hadn’t seen in years. Tanya also worked with me and my daughter to give us better tools and skills for managing our relationship – we’re now closer than we’ve ever been and enjoy one another again. If you had asked me six months ago, I never would have thought this was possible.“
K.J., Prince George
“I’ve appreciated working with Tanya. Her ability to reflect back what she’s hearing, acknowledge my perspective, and ask open-ended questions has allowed me to explore my emotions and helped me gain new perspectives. Her compassionate way of acknowledging what’s important to me while helping me explore concrete new actions I can take around relationship issues has helped me navigate my relationships in a more positive and healthy way. After working with Tanya, I feel a lot more connected in relationships that I previously experienced as having a lot of friction”
