Group Therapy

Our Approach

Because every therapeutic relationship is different, we don’t believe in using a cookie cutter approach. That being said, we draw on many different theoretical approaches including Relational Life Therapy, Gottman, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Psychodrama, and Family Systems Theory.

Our Commitment

No matter which theory we’re applying, our focus is maintaining group safety while ensuring individual growth. Above all, you’ll find our approach is collaborative, relational, and supportive.

Why Come to Group Therapy?

People often come for group counselling when they want:

  • Support from others
  • A sense of belonging
  • To better understand how they relate to others
  • Feedback
  • To learn and practice skills in a safe setting
  • To address a specific issue or area

Group therapy is different from individual therapy in that you:

  • Are not always the focus in a session
  • Give and receive feedback
  • May practice skills with your peers and receive feedback from them

Group therapy is also more directed by the therapist, and may include a pre-set agenda.

What are the Benefits of Group Therapy?

People who attend group therapy often find that they get the following out of it:

Feedback from different vantage points

Skills development

A sense of belonging

A safe place to practice new ways of being

Support for improving their relationships and lives outside of therapy
